recently i have been given notice that i am under investigation by the Oregon state bar. my business helps people file their bankruptcy petitions. the law is very clear about our type of business stating that we cannot give legal advise and that we cannot advertise in legal sections as well as we can not tell people they should file only that they can under the bankruptcy law no attorneys will help us and we cannot get a recommendation from the bar since they are investigating us does anyone have any ideas or should i just let it go to court and plead my case

It is likely that you're being investigated for "unauthorized practice of law". This is a criminal offense, so any criminal defense lawyer should be able to help you. I can't be more specific other than to say open up the phone book and start dialing.

As an aside.... The Bar here in CA uses undercover investigators to look into the business practices of what CA calls "Legal Document Assistants". I think it is the most absurd misuse of members dues in existence. They recently went after someone who was helping people file small claims suits after they claimed their investigator got "legal advice" instead of just help with forms.

I, and several of my friends, think it's despicable, and just makes the legal profession look bad - so keep calling around, I'm sure you'll find a lawyer who thinks the same way.
