Hi . I have a new idea about a scientific aspect and I want to apply for a patent. I don' know where to begin.?

I want to apply for a patent about an idea and I am a little confused how to write the introduction for it.
Do I need to provide the background? Also, If I write the application as the patents published in this website( http://www.freepatentsonline.com/ ) will it be acceptable? Thanks a lot.
