How can I deal with my neighbor who is unrelenting demanding and insulting?

I live in a downstairs suite in a house - it was orginally designed a single family unit and not meant to be an apartment. The upstairs neighbors can hear EVERYTHING that goes on downstairs, no matter how quiet one is. My neighbor has to go to bed early every night so she can get up early to go to work. I am quiet after 9PM when she's in bed (despite the law saying 11PM is quiet time). But I have to get up and pee sometimes or open a window for fresh air --- she hears it and gets very upset.

It's nearly impossible to talk to her, because unless I agree to her demand for total silence - (often during the day as well) - she resorts to name-calling and insults.

She rents the upstairs suite and I rent the downstairs. The landlord is away for an extended period of time and can't be reached.

If she is acting threatening towards you or is harassing you, a quick call to the non-emergency police line should put her in her place.

Obviously it's not ideal, but if she is being unreasonable, you're not going to reach her any other way.

Suggest to her that she start wearing ear plugs. Her demands are ridiculous. Being quiet after 9 is enough bending over backward to keep her at bay. When the landlord gets back, kindly request that some extra insulation be installed between the two floors and explain your neighbor's behavior.

So the rest of the planet has to stop for her, yes?? I don't think so, she may have to go to a job at an early time, but that is her employment choice - not yours. She can always use ear-plugs, sleep-aids, and other such stuff. Selfish cow........

Tell her to talk to the landlord. That he can't be reached isn't YOUR problem. As long as you follow the terms of YOUR lease, tell her to f*ck off. If she says anything, simply tell her to talk to the landlord and then walk away. If she DOES anything, call the police. You don't have to cater to her demands (which is what you do when you tiptoe around at 9PM even though you shouldn't have too). Follow the rules that YOUR LEASE sets out, not the ones that she wants.
