How did the photographer manage to take all the buildings out of the background of this photo?

Conservatives have been claiming this photo is of an OWS protester from Zucotti Park. My question is, how did the photographer manage to change the pavers, the benches, remove all the trees from the park and take all of the buildings out of the background? Looking at this picture one would normally assume this photo was taken from another unidentified protest and intentionally mislabeled to slander OWS protesters.

C'mon dude, adobe photo shop. Now, if it was in a legitimate publication, they should have stated that the photo had been altered. But I could do that in five minutes. to any picture. Adobe, the one nobody buys cause its free online.
