How to look up a state police officers name?

Postby werner72 » Mon Apr 30, 2012 2:42 pm

I have recently been stopped by a state police officer on the highway for speeding when i was treated so poorly i left crying... I am by no means a young woman anymore and as i was going 8mph over the speed limit i was given a ticket... (mind you i have a pretty clean driving record besides one other speeding ticket from a long time ago) before i was given the ticket the officer treated me like i had committed some sort of real crime. Although i am not going to be pressing any charges i would like to get the name of the officer to present to his commanding officer. I have his badge number but how do i find his name other than calling the state police barracks?

If his name is not on the ticket then make your complaint using his badge number. That is why they have them in the first place. His boss will know his name from the badge number.

The officer's signature is on the ticket. That will be the easiest way to get his name. Also, the officer's superiors can verify anything you say about the officer by the dash cam which recorded both video and audio during the traffic stop. All state highway patrol departments now use dash cams.

His name should be on the citation / ticket he gave you. But even without that just having his badge number his enough for them to identify him. You mentioned pressing charges and from what you said I don't see that option on the table anymore then I can press charges on a waitress for bad service or being rude. You also need to understand that if you file a complaint it is more than likely you will never know the out come. This is because anything placed in his personnel file is a private matter and can't be released to the public. This is why most people think their complaints go unanswered. The only thing the supervisor is allowed to say is that he has address your issues. Nothing more.

I am sorry that happened, I have no idea what type of day he could have been having for being whatever way with you... may I suggest that you please let it go? 8 MPH is still over & maybe they are having a bad day with everyone acting like they should be ignoring everything. 8 MPH doesn't seem like much when ppl usually do at least 10 over but it is his discretion & if you tried to bring that up, his getting curt or short with you could have just been compounded that they're always questioned like they're dummies that don't know how to do their jobs... yes, some aren't doing their job the way they should but in this case it was totally legit. Please, for the sake of his putting his life on the line every day & facing possible retailiation, have some grace towards him & let it go. A Y!A officer, goes by the name George Patton, drives like Miss Daisy he says & rarely goes five over (read his A on my Q http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnQ1WthY.PJhvdDWzdkL8dTty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20120426173129AA4D2yW )... I wish ppl would watch more cop shows & more Youtube videos showing the grief & danger cops go thru trying to respond to issues as the law says they have to.

These are interesting reads. In regards to the last link, I hope no one would do that. I do believe that we are living in the day & age of a "Few" Good (non-corrupt in some way) Men... with that said, I would still advocate being merciful & gracious towards them.

Please forgive the officer for his attitude & consider what he may be going thru. They're human, too, & no one is perfect with their speech & attitude their whole lives. =)

You seem to think that every police agency in the world is organized the same way and has the same information available via the same mechanism. Poor assumption.
