I am 17 and interested in joining the Coast Guard Reserve?

I live in Orlando Florida and have been interested in the Coast Guard reserves for a while now. I had read something about a student reserve program that really caught my attention. I was wondering if anyone knew any details about this. I hear it is pretty tough to get enlisted, but I am determined. I would like to get into a security or maritime law enforcement rating in the reserve. I am planning on studying criminal justice/law enforcement in college. Would this help me to get enlisted? What are some steps I should take? Any info helps, thank you.

It is tough to join any of the services. =o I'm going into the Air Force soon. =s Are you going to college first or Coast Guard? If you go to college you may be able to go in as an officer.

It's the only branch of the US armed forces I would consider joining (much too old now); projecting force onto foreign soil bugs me but standing at the border, defending the home front? Yeah, I could do that.
