I just got an acceptance letter from Cal State Long Beach and A letter for a written exam for LASD?

I'm a littel confused on my future right about now. I want to continue my pursuit on education and recieve a Bachelors degree in criminal justice, my only problem is i just received a letter from the los angeles sheriffs department for a written exam. I would like some help from current/former law enforcement officers and what would be the right move.

I am currently a Sergeant with 14 years on. Get your degree. Plain and simple. LASD will be there when you finish. Getting a degree helps in a lot of ways: life experience, reading/writing critically, communication skills, and it is HUGE for promotion later on. I have a BS is Criminal Justice and a Masters Degree (MBA). Get your education. Just for practice though, take the written test to see what it is like!!

Let the Department know how you feel. I was in the same situation as you were, and I turned the offer down but advised the department the reason why. I continued to pursue my bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, and when I finished I had many agencies that wanted me to join. I am currently employed by The Ohio State Highway Patrol, and have the opportunity to be a viable candidate for the DEA, FBI, or the ATF. This is only because my education was first and foremost. Going for four years is also beneficial because it allows you to get into top physical condition before you hit the streets. Good luck, and make sure you wear your BP vest when you get out there. I missed 3 bullets Saturday night! Good luck!
