I received my AFSC but what about my security clearance?

I will try to make this easy as possible to follow along with. I received my AFSC yesterday. Yeah I was excited that the job was on my list. The more I researched the job, I found that it will require a Top Secret security clearance. Now this is were it gets tricky-

1. I filed bankruptcy BUT I was given a security waiver. The bankruptcy was in the past and I have no outstanding debts. Other than that I am clean as a whistle (no troubles with law or drugs)
2. I have already gone through MEPS and currently waiting for basic training.

So my recruiter called me to congratulate me on getting my AFSC, but now I am confused. Does that mean I have a top secret security clearance? I dont need to hear that bankruptcy will automatically disqualify me because I know thats not true. I doubt that my security clearance has already gone through, which made me question about my AFSC. So now if I dont get a Top Secret clearance, why did I get assigned that AFSC? Especially since they already know about my bankruptcy and security waiver.

I had an AFSC that didn't need a clearance and then when I got my assignment to my 2nd base I needed one. That was a couple of months before I left my old base. The first thing I did was more paperwork. Then had an intervew with an FBI agent. He asked me a couple of questions about things I had no idea how they knew. So when you put your references on the form make sure these people know anything you may have done and what they're likely to say so you have the same story as they do. When I finally got to my 2 nd base I sat and worked for the orderly room in the squadron for 8 months until I got my clearance. Everyone at the base just about had a clearance. So trust me everything in your history will be thourougly investigated. It took them 10 months after my interview to get my clearance and I thought they already knew everything then. What else could they have found???

No, you do not have a clearance. That can take up to a year to complete. You most likely have a PRELIMINARY APPROVAL which means they didn't DQ you for the bankruptcy when it was submitted. Everyone going into jobs that require a clearance start with preliminary approval since the approval takes such a long time.

After BMT but before tech school is when they run everything to see if you qualify for security clearance. This process can take up to a year but no you definitely do not have it yet.

1. No it does not mean you have a security clearance

2. You got the AFSC, because you received a security waiver

The security wavier means they will not look at the bankruptcy as a negative during your security investigation

IE: it was long enough ago, it is not relavant anymore or the reasons for it were considered justified.

3. They do not even start your security investigation until after you ship to basic and fill out more paperwork

You will not be granted a security clearance until you are almost done with Tech School

If needed, you get an intern clearance while in Tech School

4. Then if for some reason, you are denied a clearance, depending on the reason, you will be reassigned a AFSC that does not require one or, if the reason was something you failed to mention, you will be separated.

5. IE: the security wavier for the bankruptcy, means they do not consider it relavant anymore, so its not an issue as far as getting a security clearance.
