My former family law attorney told me to retain her although I did not have the funds to pay her high hourly of $550. She told me that she will go after the medical professional involved to get her fee back. She reduced her retainer to accommodate my situation. After a year she racked up over $120,000 in fees of which I was encouraged to pay and did pay over $30,000 in order to pay her expenses not to mention additional $15,000 for experts, etc. After discovering how difficult to go after a medical professional for malpractice, she withdrew from the case and now suing me for the balance. I received summons in June for Case Management Conference in Aug. I just received CM-110. I have filed a complaint to the State Bar. What are the steps I need to take? Can any one tell me the schedule for filing response, documents, etc.?
