IP ADDRESS???????????????????

Postby gobrwy » Sun Jul 08, 2012 5:01 am

Just recently, I was commenting back & forth on my friends wall about different topics & how we hate drugs & criminals on meetme (myyearbook) & some no life loser idiot commented back criticizing me for being a self-righteous loser so I reported & deleted it without saying anything then he comments again with nonsense so I sent him a private message insulting him & blocked him then he told the girl I was chatting with that he has my IP address & he will prosecute me under the Texas law for cyberbulling. Sending one message then blocking them asap isn't cyberbulling but how did he get my IP address? Can he hack into my account or my laptop?

IP ADDRESS???????????????????

Postby emilek17 » Sun Jul 08, 2012 5:10 am

"so my IP address is in the address bar at the top" - no, that is the url of the page you are on. Their ip address can be looked up, but not yours. Copy past 204.145.125.82 in the bar.

There is 2 ways to get someones ip address.
1 court order. He must wile suit in court with the site to turn over that information. IF he wins, then he must file suit with your isp to see who it belongs to. The odds of winning - almost zero in this case.

2 Hack - there is a BIG misconception about this. It takes MUCH more than a script kiddie to hack a site. The odds of this - almost zero in this case.

You are correct that Texas does not have a cyberbulling law. But it is possible to violate a law depending on exactly what you sent. This would have to be a threat or harassment. Calling someone a name is not illegal. If it where I would have tried to have many, many people prosecuted for calling me an a-h0le (even though they are correct).
