im playing games online and theres a group of kids freezing our accounts all the time, and we know its them cuz they say it. so me and my friends created a fake account and make these kids think were mods becuz the mods r doing nothing about these hackers so basically we have to police them ourselves to get them to leave us alone. so anyways is this illegal to make ppl think were mods. now technically we never use the word mod or admin and we never claim were authority. we just simply say we have received reports (which normal ppl can do) and you may get banned by sony. now i know that this can get me banned but im just wondering if it can get me in trouble with the law. and remember i never technically say that we have authority, we just elude to it. thx

Umm no, claiming to be admin/mod is not like claiming to be a police officer for example.
On the virtual world, you can do whatever you want and claim to be whoever you want. Only when you start stealing money that it starts to be not okay.

it is illegal to impersonate anyone but yourself, so technically yes this is illegal because you are pretending to be someone you are not

Usually, you agree to a Terms of Service (TOS) when you login to any net service. Under the TOS, what you are doing qualifies as violating the TOS -- depends on the TOS of course, but the game company will probably ban you. On the flip side, those kids are also violating the TOS and should be banned.
