Missed traffic court date, warrant was issued-but paid-what to expect at new court date?

Postby aenedleah10 » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:49 pm

I feel so stupid for one..I got a speeding ticket, my first ever in my 23 year of driving-BTW I did not sign for the ticket-I thought that is something required and he didn't ask for proof of insurance. Officer told me I didn’t have to go court and I can pay on-line( That’s what I heard I guess) I paid the ticket on-line 8 days after the issued court date. I received an email stating they rejected the payment and that a warrant was issued d/t not showing up to court. I freaked and called the courts-they told me I had to pay in cash $345.00 for the bond and get a new court date. So 4 days after paying and getting that email I ran to the police station where I paid the bond. My question is-what will happen at court. Will I have to pay for not showing up the first time? Do I bother trying to explain that I was an idiot for not reading the entire ticket regarding payment? Do I get any brownie points for paying the bond in a timely manner- (I paid the bond before they sent out the letter for the warrant) This was in Euclid, Oh –near Cleveland. Thank you!

1) Will I have to pay for not showing up the first time?

It is entirely possible that there may be a fine for Failure To Appear

2) Do I bother trying to explain that I was an idiot for not reading the entire ticket regarding payment?

Absolutely! What do you have to lose? They can't increase your fine for trying to explain, but if you can get anything knocked off, you're ahead.

3) Do I get any brownie points for paying the bond in a timely manner

LOL, no, Well, you get to avoid being arrested and then posting bond at a later time.

Go to court, plead your case, hope for the best.

By the way, when he told you that you didn't have to go to court, and you could pay online, he should have added that it needed to be paid NOT LATER THAN the scheduled court date......live and learn.
