Moving a swerer off our property?

Postby regenweald » Tue Mar 27, 2012 11:02 am

hello, we have a corner house lot and our driveway is currently on the side of the house in the backyard area. the front corner of our home is all these vines and weeds and yesterday we actually got a lot out and noticed that under it all there is a sewer. probably has been burried under all those vines for 30 year+. Noe right at the corner where is sewer is, is where we wanna move our driveway, that way it'll be in the front of the house and we would be able to open up our backyard for lots more space.

now, would it be possible for the city to come and move the sewer or block it somehow? would it possibly cost us money? I am almost cretin that the swear is on our property. let me know, thanks!

i live in Niagara Falls, Ontario

the city almost certainly has an easement that allows them to have the sewer exactly where it is.

in which case, moving it would have to be at your expense.

you'll have to consult the land records to be certain ... but a friendly inquiry at the building and zoning people may be enough to discover what you want to know ... ask them if a building permit is required in order to move the driveway and give them your address ... then act like you don't know anything about the sewer

I would learn to spell before you start asking the city anything so they'll take you seriously
