New Obama Immigration law...?

Postby orson19 » Sat Jul 21, 2012 6:17 am

Does anyone know when it becomes effective? What if you already have a court date set for next year? Do you still go to court? Who could we talk to to find these things out?

New Obama Immigration law...?

There is no "Obama immigration law." The President is not the person who passes laws in this country. That job belongs to Congress...and Congress has NOT passed any immigration laws.

What Obama did was tell ICE that they don't have to enforce immigration laws against certain folks. But ICE is free to do so, it is still up to ICE on whom they take into custody for deportation. You are still at risk if here illegally.

There is no new law.

If you are in deportation procedings, you will be deported.

There is no new law.
All the president said now publicly is what has been his policy all along: to focus on people who have been convicted of a crime, and lay low on young folks who have not been in trouble with the law.

If somebody has a court date, that stands as before. Whether or not that person will be ordered deported is up to the judge. Whether ICE will not pursue deportation is another thing we can't possibly guess.
