Requirements for IL drivers license?

I'm 18 I moved here a while ago from Florida. To get a drivers permit/license you had to take an eight hour drug and alcohol course and pass. I don't have my permit or my license. Do I get a permit first then turn around and test for my license? I don't know how the laws are here. A website or something would be helpful too.

18 and Older?First-time drivers 18 and older are not legally required to complete a driver's education course. However, you get a break on insurance if you do.

Yes, you will need the permit to practice and to sit the test to be licensed.

Probably best thing to do will be to read things in the link I'll drop below, then you will get it first hand from Illinois.
