Security Studies Degree?

Postby chason62 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 1:24 pm

The school I am going to offers this degree.

http://web.njcu.edu/sites/profstudies/securitystudies/Content/bachelors.asp

It offers classes like Computer Security, Security Problems, Risk Management, etc.
Does this have potential? I was thinking Criminal Justice before, but I don't want to work in law enforcement, however I am interested in this whole subject so I was thinking if I get a security studies degree, I could climb a ladder at a private security firm or something.

Security Studies Degree?

Yes, this is a legit degree. Many of the DC area schools have majors in security studies. My only worry for you would be transferability. If you needed to transfer schools for some reason all your credits may not transfer. You should look into more "normal" majors and minor in security studies.

Security Studies Degree?

no dont do it. Security=low level and private security is low paying,
get criminal justice degree it applys to private security too and have more meaning in the degree name.

With CJ degree you can work in human services field like case manager, coordinator etc.
but with security studies you are very limited and nobody will hire you.
