Should I apply for Early Action compared to Regular Action?

Postby jasper » Sun Oct 30, 2011 2:36 am

I am a senior in high school and would really love to attend the University of Notre Dame. I plan on applying there, but I don't know whether to apply for Early Action or Regular Decision. The main reason is because I am taking the SATs again on October 1st and want to get my score as high as possible. My first SAT was in January, and my was a 1750 (630- Math, 550- Reading, 570 Writing). That's not bad but on CollegeBoard its says that the average Notre Dame students scores a mid-600. The SAT scores won't be released before November 1st either, which is the deadline for Early Action. I am in the top 5% of my class, taken almost all Honors/AP classes, a varsity football player, sports editor for the school newspaper, hold a part-time job, and over 60 hours of community service. So basically my question is should I apply for Early Action or wait for my SAT scores from October, which will most likely be a little higher, and apply for Regular Decision?

SAT scores take about 3 weeks to get, so if you're taking the October 1st SAT you should get your scores before Nov 1. If the colleges you are applying to have early action, I would definitely recommend doing that. You are not binded plus it shows that you have a great interest in attending.

Most Admissions offices give at least two weeks, and many up to 30 days or more, to get the required test scores, official transcripts etc. in so long as you meet the deadline for the application. Go ahead and apply EA.
