The right career and degree?

Postby emilek17 » Wed May 09, 2012 1:16 pm

I have a friend that is looking in returning to school to better his life. However, he has two felony convictions, one is an endangering and the other is receiving stolen property. With these felonies he is not sure what type of career he could get into and what type of degree he would need. If anyone knows of different careers that would be available for him to work in and the degree needed for that career please let me know. Please do not judge him these crimes were committed when he was 18 and he is now 26.

The right career and degree?

Although there is a stigma to having felony convictions, he has paid his debt to society and deserves another chance. The challenge will be finding someone who will give him a chance to prove himself. This will depend on his ability to convince employers that he has changed his ways and has learned from his mistakes. He kay have difficulty obtaining a security clearance, so sensitive government positions may be out of reach , everything else should be on the table. What does he like to do? Since he does have some baggage to overcome, it may not be good to choose an overcrowded field where the competition is stiff and there are too many applicants for the available jobs. The two career fields that seem to spring to mind are computer programing, and law enforcement. Both fields are in demand and in computer programing a colorful past may be asset , especially in creating games. Most government have rules against discrimination so he should get a fair chance. Best of luck The PracticaL Mentor.
