Geena, yea i agree with the post above by both curtis,law lover. ok this will be a long "interesting" comment it involve my friend who took a FULL 2 to 3 years to elect on such degree she want to be able to major in,finally to decide rightfully on what is BEST for her)

personally;

i say history and or something that is not going to completely or at all "bore you to death!"lol i do love history alot myself.and work as a advocate for years in helping family members and friends etc.
in stuff with dyfs of new jersey crooked system taking away children for money purpose/foster care.

now IMO?

i say history or political science if they are interested in "how politic"play in some things in our horrid judicial system,and history etc.see how political aspect"just might have a feasibility"in the way a law court and higher or lower court decision can have effect on a outcome of a case,as yes crooked as it is,it DO happen!

i actually have a close friend.she is going for her Bachelor Degree should be all done within a year
or two for law school,she already has a 10 year head start for law school will breeze through it.cause she do advocate work and helping families draft already m,write-up claims etc. pro-se stuff.

she is SO smart.heavy researcher,and trained paralegal for several years.she took as her college undergraduate degree in her late thirties,it was a big toss up for her...

as she love history since grade school,she say,and literature,reading writing,is a songwriter too
as well as poetry,etc.she was always a writer at heart since a kid.so she was focal on history
but also on her literature(english)or history major.she was THEN told by expert,in such field;

as other parties,in business law personal injury etc. that maybe she should do
POLITICAL SCIENCE since she always wonder things about the"political side"of the judicial ;
crooked system,how it play a role in '[what cases']win,what do not win, how can"certain case"
be lost when ALL evidence point to a guilty liable party i.e. family cases involving bias crooked child protection services,etc.

hence:

Finally she elect to get her B.S.or B.A.regarding maybe financial,for personal tort law attorney/civil right(s)etc. helping families specifically sue CPS for their illegal criminal practices,injury to foster care children,etc. she is great at that as she finally decide to go with not even business or english but history.so i support that.and she is just about done,as law school awaits her!

it really just has to be what your relative LOVE/has a knack a strong aggressive passion for
and just do as my friend GO for it.in"the field that interest them most"

good luck geena.

If you want to do well in law school and get a high class rank, then a government major or international affairs seems logical. But the job market is horrible for recent law school graduates. Check out the blogs for "abovethelaw" or just google "law school graduates" and "employment" or "unemployed." The horror stories of high debt and no job prospects are dismal for many graduates.

But there are areas of law that have been in demand despite the recession. If you specialize in bankrupty or foreclosures, that might help. Another "unorthodox angle" is patent law. But that degree would require a technical background like electrical engineering or science.

Hey Geena,

Whichever major you can achieve the highest GPA in. A high LSAT score is very useful, but it needs to be matched with a high GPA to have the greatest chance at a top law school. If you have an interest in a subject, it's much easier to learn it. I would recommend the major that piques the most interest in your relative.

However, one caveat - skip criminal justice. The others are fine, but CJ is viewed as a poor intro to law school. Most of the programs aren't particularly rigorous by law schools, so go with one of the others on the list.

Good luck!

CURTIS post is true. i concur,i actually took history because i stay up day night watchin HISTORY.
Reading HISTORY.doing all things related to history it seem from 9th grade lol i am hooked on the history!lol tv shows,newscast the history channel day and night lol just love my history.

so hence i happily took course(s)for my bachelor of science in history. i do not regret it
i can read and learn it all day without much boredom.i am NEVER bored with electing my history as a major and now i am in law school 2nd year.

That is part of being a lover addict to law and history! lol i will make great atty.from this.so yea i also would like to say say congrats on a high LSAT score.that is a great thing.....

That is so great...& i personally for your relative will suggest history. yep.i love learning about this.

as i know most attorneys/historian majors i learn have so much in common here since both shall argue persuasively by the proper use of historian data to support such arguement(s)at bar,so i say they take history.I do not regret doing so.Now i am in law school loving it! and Good luck.

take something that gives you a plan B just in case. All of these degrees have branches that can be relative to law but take the degree that you are most interested in. You will get better grades and be less stressed if you are taking a program you want to be in.
