I am 17. My significant other is older than 18. He currently lives in England, where the age of consent is 16. I currently live in Illinois, where the age of consent is 17. Would this mean that it is also legal to have 'sexual relations' online, and through a webcam? I would think that it should be fine, considering I am of the age of consent for where both of us live. I cannot find any specific laws about this anywhere online, only laws about actual physical sex. Anyone have any answers?

I won't address the legal aspects of this question, because I am not an international attorney. Which is what would be required in this instance, to be certain that the person is fully familiar with both Illinois and British law.

However, please think SERIOUSLY about this before you engage in what might be irreparably harmful behavior for both of you. Please remember that the internet is NOT a "secure" place. Webcam video can be intercepted, copied, and distributed. Do you really want to risk that happening with something like what you are contemplating? Please, there IS NO PRIVACY on the internet. Don't set yourself up to be a victim.
