I think it's awesome that the city of New York gets to mete out justice. They get to face the person who did so much damage to them, see the evidence against him, and convict him of the crime. So much better than having him disappeared into a shadowy military prison with nothing more than the word of the government that they have the right man. I want to know that justice is done, and that's best done by drawing the cockroach out into the light of day. When we've brought the full power of America's justice system to bear on finding the truth, then we can destroy him. Cowering away and letting others do our dirty work for us so we can pretend justice is done is not what we do in the land of the free and the home of the brave. It will be expensive, and the security costs will need to be dealt with. There will be pain in revisiting the damage that was done. But rushing to justice to avoid those costs provides no justice at all.We can't always afford it. Some of the people in Guantanamo will be tried there, by military tribunal, especially those who are accused of crimes against the military and for which only secret evidence is going to convict them. Worse, we've tainted some of the cases so badly that it would be unjust to try them and equally unjust to set them free. But when we've got evidence that we can bring into the light of day and secure a real conviction, that's far better than hiding it. 59 months ago
