What does "Appearance Date Extension" mean when dealing with a traffic ticket?"?

I got a ticket in January my original Appearance date was 3/29/12. I went online and was granted an "Appearance Date Extension" for 5/29/12. This means that I either have to pay the fine, request a Trial By Declaration, or contest the ticket and request a court date by 5/29/12 right? I don't have to pay the bail on 3/29 still? My most important question is, now that i got the extension, do i have to physically appear in court or can i pay online by the extension date???

please help if you know the answer to my questions
