If I lose in small claims court against a debt collector and I don't pay (i currently do not have a job and due to illness, I won't be able to work right now) can you go to jail? what can they do to you? also, if I didn't show up to the small claims hearing under the magistrate, could I be arrested or put in jail?

Then you have defied a judge's order and most likely a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

Future wages to include tax refunds can be garnished. A lien can be placed against your house and car so you can't sell it
EDIT - If you have no money, no bank account, and no taxes there is not much for them to do. Just don't expect to get a credit card any time soon

You could be arrested for not showing up to the hearing. If you have been sued for money they will take it out of your bank account, if you have one.
