What rights do volunteers have?

Postby arrigo » Sun Apr 10, 2011 6:45 am

Do volunteers have any rights against discrimination, false allegations, sexual harassment by a supervisor, character defamation through verbal slander or alleged photos that may have been altered? Do volunteers have any rights at all to be treated fairly and with respect?

With the difficulty of finding, recruiting, training and retaining volunteers, the management would be foolish to allow anyone to jeopardize continued participation by valued volunteers because of a hostile work environment. It would be MUCH easier to fire and replace a supervisor than to replace the volunteers!

They have the same rights as an employee. You may not be getting paid, but you are still an employee basically. Also some of these things are basic rights, no one can be sexually harassed. The nicer thing about being a volunteer and not being paid is that hey if you leave you aren't losing anything(unless it's some community service type deal). You don't have to feel the need to put up with it because the pay.

Yes you have rights. Report the allegations to management then find somewhere else to volunteer.
