What's this ban on youth farm chores all about from President Obama?

A friend of mine said that Obama is trying to pass a law that would outlaw children from being able to work on their family-operated farms. What is the extent of this law, and how true was my friend?

The law was made to protect immigrants and the children of immigrants on large corporate farms from doing additional work without being paid, and from working too much. But, the law would extend to what your friend has described, so your friend is right. This is yet another huge overstep of the government. I cannot decide if they truly believe that this is helping people, or they have ulterior motives. Either way, it is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The government needs to get out of people's business. America is turning into a ninny state full of safety precautions and unnessecery regulations that is actually hurting people. From arresting kids for having a lemonade stand, to this. Working on a farm is good for people, it teaches you what hard work is.

Don't swallow the Fox News version.

The proposed legislation is to stop under age kids working with dangerous machinery on farms BUT family farms are excluded.

Farming is the second most dangerous profession after deep sea fishing, people are injured and killed every day with tractors overturning, combines running people down, balers severing fingers, hands and arms.

the man who answered the question for you . Nathan is a very smart man and wise, his answer hit the nail on the head, its a solution to a problem that don't exist! bravo Nathan, great explanation! I would love to hear your comment on Obama's comment on travon martin when he said on national TV "If I had a Son he would look just like travon martin" He was so out of line, he gave a silent nod to proscute zimmerman and sent what kind of messages to the black community!
