I have two job options right now, one in the private sector and the other in the public sector. All my family members and friends say I should work in the private sectors. They all hate government employees and government in general due to their bad experiences with IRS, DMV, law enforcement etc....My brother even says that he won't talk to me anymore if I work for the government. Why all the hate?

Because I general, they are overpaid and underworked. You ever been to the DMV? Fire fighters work 9-12 days a month and will make over 150k per year including penchants. Get rid of penchants and treat them like private sector employees and it will change.

Government employees are largely despised because many of them have unions, which means the vast majority of people working for the state or Club Fed do the absolute minimum in order to get by while expecting more and more in terms of salary and benefits like health care, life insurance, and PENSIONS.

There are some honest, hard-working individuals in government jobs. The problem is the lazy ones who don't do their jobs and complain about everything make all government employees look bad.

As Norm says about many doing the minimum to get by. It is the same in England. Also in England it is difficult to get rid of incompetent staff short of promoting them, thus making them somebody else's problem.

Public sector jobs do need doing, but there seems little incentive to get them done very well.

They're lazy, underworked, overpaid, often ******* to the public and go on strike every 3 days in order to get more wages and benefits.
