Why do people think you can tax business without taxing people?

Postby clem84 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:15 am

Help me prove this dude wrong.

He said "just raise taxes on buisiness but not people."

I said business I people. The CEO writing the check to pay that tax isn't paying for it. We the consumers are paying it through higher prices. The workers are paying it.

The building can't pay taxes. Only people can pay taxes.

Who's right?

It would not make any sense not to raise the cost of something because of increased taxes. It cuts into the earning ratio of cost/selling price given demand for a product is constant. People pay more or buy less product and given the sad state of the economy, companies will have to lay people off to make up for their losses or declare chapter 11.

What liberals don't understand is that when the individual gets taxed he or she has less disposable income to buy with and that effects demand which in turn should effect the selling price of a product.

Taxes do not play into the pricing of a product. Taxes are based off of profits. So if you raise prices to adjust for taxes, you'd make profits, and have to pay more taxes anyways.

Also an account would have to be pretty shitty if they weren't anticipating changes in the tax code and couldn't adjust accordingly.

Another point, when taxes on the airline industry expired, prices didn't drop, in fact they stayed the same, if not went up a little, showing that prices are not connected to taxes.

Thanks for playing.

Income taxes are not passed down to the consumer. Its really easy to prove that.
All companies in the same industry do not make the same profit, in fact, some have losses.
If companies passed down income tax, then the prices of very successful companies in an industry would be higher than others.
It simply isn't true.
Consider the Government to be a silent partner. At the end of the year, they get their share. By the way, if a company has a loss, the Government gives them money back from previous years.

What too many in the US do not understand is ---ONLY individuals pay taxes. Companies or every size only collect taxes for some government entity. It's the customers who pay ALL taxes. And ultimately it rolls down hill to INDIVIDUALS. Of example right now there's a 45 cent federal tax on every gallon of gas I buy. The station I buy my gas from doesn't pay it. The refinery doesn't pay it. I pay it. The other people are just tax collectors.

You tax a business, they just pass that tax down the road in higher prices. That is called an indirect tax. It's the individual that takes it in the end *G* And that's the truth. Some people are just too dumb to realize what's happening.

Is this the BS the media is feeding you?

Taxes are lower than they've ever been yet businesses are always raising prices.

Also, a businesses can't raise its prices without consumers putting up a fight. Look at what happened to Netflix.

You are exactly right. Democrats smugly refer to it as "unintended consequences" and further demonize businesses for passing their tax increase on to the consumer.

Florida has a corporate income tax but no tax on individuals. They also used to tax the wealthy on their investments.

Businesses pass the taxes down to consumers...so anyone wanting to tax business is taxing themselves.
