primarily because the cost of making our borders impregnable is far higher than most folks are willing to pay, on a variety of levels. folks like to talk about this like it's a liberal issue. that's largely bs. Reagan passed the last amnesty and Bush was the last president to try to pass it. Obama's latest plan is very small compared to what Bush tried to do. In reality, according to DHS stats under both Bush and Obama, illegal immigration has been dropping for the past 5 years. this year was the first when more illegals left than entered. when Obama put his latest program together for young people who came illegally but who grew up in the US, Romney didn't say it shouldn't have happened, he said he would have done it better. hard to imagine this is the same fellow who dissed the Texas goverernor for his state program that allows illegal students to attend Texas universities and pay in state fees during the primaries, but there it is. the reality is that the Repubicans like to talk the talk from your point of view, but they don't walk the walk, not nationally anyway. the other reality is that both parties have tried very hard to ignore the problem since Bush was unable to pass his plan.
