Why does the UK have PCSOs?

Postby newyddilyn60 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 4:31 pm

PCSOs make up a large part of British law enforcement, but they do not carry batons, pepperspray, hand cuffs or leg restraints, nor do they have any powers of arrest beyond that of a citizen's arrest that everyone has.

What is the point in paying law enforcement officials who have absolutely no power over anyone? I don't know of any other country that has officers like that.

Why does the UK continue to pay these people? Why don't they just spend the money on employing proper police officers who can actually confront criminals and arrest people?

You're assuming arresting people is the sole purpose of the police - it isn't. They are also there to help people (community support - gives it away in the name), and support education programmes.

It's policing on the cheap.
This government is cutting everything, except for things that affect their rich friends.

Say it as it is.

Something strange going on here you only joined two minutes ago and you seem to be asking a lot of questions about the police. Sounds like a hidden agenda to me! If you have something to say why not say it and stop with the hidden agenda!

Two seconds ago it was why are the British so weak how terrible we are for not carrying guns!

In fact 5 questions all about police & PCSO's.

Look I don't agree with it either but this is not the way make a point

Police on the cheap, simple as that. Not saying the PCSOs dont do a good job but you get what you pay for.
