Why don't police enforce "slower traffic keep right"?

It is a law in almost every state. Yet it's virtually unenforced. There might be a few instances someone can cite to me where it has been enforced but for all practical purposes no one enforces it...why???

Why don't police enforce "slower traffic keep right"?

The police can't possibly enforce every violation, certainly not every single law on the books. So it's a matter of priorities. Which is why I laugh when cops TRY to make excuses that they have no choice of laws to enforce. However, in the state of New York, the cops WILL pull you over for continuing to drive in the left lane of any limited access highway when there is no other traffic around. And certainly if it impedes other traffic from passing.

But you're right; in almost all other states, it's virtually ignored. Like I said, priorities. Speeding fines are more lucrative and easier to prove in court.

In my state, that law only applies if the slower traffic is below the speed limit. That is rarely the case. If they are below the speed limit, it only applies if they are impeding other traffic.

The violation will probably not get an officer's attention unless the vehicle is impeding traffic. I've seen it enforced when that is the case.

Why don't police enforce "slower traffic keep right"?

It is on the LA freeway. Big signs. Some signs even give max and min speeds in which lanes. Or, "no traffic below 15 mph of mean traffic speed". This 15 MPH means, traffic can average 75, even though they are technically speeding, but some one can be doing 55 in right lane and still get a ticket.

In other cases, it is probably only enforced if a cop actually sees someone obstructing traffic. A citizen calling it in usually is ignored. If the "obstructor" isn't otherwise breaking the law, they aren't a big "target" for the cops.

Because it would require too much effort, and it doesn't hurt anyone so they have better things to do.
