Why Tennessee? 1 bankruptcy filing for every 56 households?

TN has the higest rate of personal bankruptcies in this country.
Obama voted against the 2005 BK bill which Bush signed into law. McCain voted for it.
This new law was a gift to the CC/banking industry & has caused many who need the fresh start of BK more hardship.
Yet, McCain is probably going to win TN in the general election.
He will never make any amendments to this law. Given the chance, Obama may.
This is so sad that some people in TN will vote against their own best financial interest, having been brainwashed to thinking things like flag pins are more important.
Some of you who would judge anyone who has filed bankruptcy have not walked in anyones elses shoes & like the Bible says, you heap judgement upon yourself when you judge others.
You may have your plans now and there is nothing wrong with that, but God may have other plans for you someday and you may need the protection bankruptcy offers!
Abe Lincold did. So did Henry Ford, Walt Disney and many others!

Reality and the republicans are like oil and water. They do not mix well. If it gets a good review on FAUX , O Liely & lush, then it has to be too good to be true.

Maybe people there were more irresponsible than other states? God doesn't control your pocket book.

personal irresponsibility. sounds like TN had a greater number of people buying houses they couldn't afford.

It's the same thing that happened in W. Virginia. It's too bad they don't have a literacy test for voters. If they did we would have a better government.

Actually, the new bankruptcy laws do not affect 85% of the filers. All the talk has probably made a lot of poeple who could still file, not file. Sometimes bankruptcy is necessary. I filed myself in 2006.

That is funny that you mention Abe Lincoln and bankruptcy. Mary Todd Lincoln, his wife loved the finer things but paying for them, not so much.

During Abe’s re-election campaign in 1864, Mary Todd Lincoln fretted—but not out of hope for her husband’s success. An infamous shopoholic, Mary had run up tens of thousands of dollars in department store debt. Should Abe win, she could sit on the expenses for a while. But should he lose, the couple’s transformation into ordinary citizens would leave her no option but to tell him. And, as it turned out, Mary knew all too well how Abe would react to her spending habits. When she had overspent the congressional appropriation for White House furnishings within months of moving into the mansion, it left Abe fuming. So, rather than turning to her husband for financial aid, Mary resorted to more creative tactics, such as selling off excess manure purchased for the fertilization of White House grounds and firing some of the mansion’s staff.

My prayers to all who are suffering financially in this recession.
