Why was Maritime Law changed to Martial Law?

Postby sampson » Fri Apr 08, 2011 12:10 pm

Martial Law actually used to be called "Maritime Law" because Navies used to be the controlling/policing entity and primary military force of the globe. Then it was changed to "Martial Law." Some still use "Maritime Law" especially old salty dogs.

But either way; local "law enforcement" and Homeland Security have basically fully made the transition into Federal Agents now.

Why was Maritime Law changed to Martial Law?

hahahaha i like witches' answer.

Research the origin of banking institutions and trace it through till about 1800-1900 or even now and that should help you pinpoint when and maybe why. Maritime (anything) has to with trade and money and martial law is an extension of that: social control.

Yea I've noticed the jerk cops have gotten really ballsy lately, good to know I have to research the laws all over again.
