I recently tried to get a really good job and made it through the entire interview process. It was a private business not a government job or anything requiring being licensed. During the 3rd and final interview I disclosed that from 2002-2004 I had a problem with alcohol and have been sober since September 13th 2004. I let them know what led to me going to rehab and getting sober was being arrested on different occasions during this time period. I had misdemeanors for non-violent non-theft crimes like Public Intoxication. All the misdemeanors were dropped and I am getting them expunged.
However what finally led to me hitting bottom and going to rehab was a Class E Felony Attempted Burglary Conviction in 2004. Briefly, the conviction was a result of finding me drunk behind a tobacco store on July 4th 2003 and scaring me into "confessing to trying to break in." Since then I have maintained a solid work history, great references, and remained sober. The company decided that they still wanted to hire me. Unfortunately the company uses a 3rd party company that "hires you" for the first 30 days. The 3rd party company instantly declined me when I disclosed the Felony charge.
July 1st the State I live in is passing a law that will allow me to get my Class E Felony expunged and I meet all the criteria. When I talked with the lady from the 3rd party company about trying again after all the charges and one conviction have been expunged she stated "you have no idea how hard it is to get this stuff not to show up anywhere." The women was very polite and I felt was simply being honest with me so not to get my hopes up. Assuming I have my criminal background expunged entirely, what are the chances of these crimes not showing up on any background check excluding government/police/federal background test?
