Classic liberalism is the support of personal liberty and private property rights. That is what conservatives/libertarians of today support.

Modern liberalism is the support of government control and regulation, and forced redistribution of wealth.

Wouldn't statist be a more accurate term for today's left?

Your party now Mandates that I am forced to undergo a completely unnecessary medical procedure.
Your party has demanded that we forcibly steal private land from American citizens and hand it over to a foreign company so that they can send their dirty tar sands oil across our nation and ship it out to Europe and china. Yes. By definition liberal and liberty go together. Modern so called liberals are no more liberal than Fidel Castro who is a good example of a statist.
