One day, my family and I decided to go on a picnic. Mother had packed the fried chicken and big chocolate cake. My sister-in-law had added the potato salad and enough drinks for everyone. Dad hooked the boat onto the camper, and mother had to hurry up and get the food inside so we could get going.

There you go.

If this is the beginning of your story, then there needs to be a hook so that it grabs the attention of the reader.
