16 years old and got a failure to yield to oncoming traffic ticket in OHIO?

Postby eddis » Mon Apr 11, 2011 9:52 pm

Hi I am 16 years old and I live in Ohio. I got my license about a month and a week ago. I was at a stop sign about to go north(straight) across the intersection. there is no stop for the people going east/west. I looked both ways and went. I almost made it across and got hit by a car going West. So they hit my passenger side. The accident was my fault and yes I stopped at the stop sign. The car was closer than I thought it was and the officer gave me a failure to yield into on coming traffic ticket. Will I have to go to court and could I lose my license? I will be 17 in August.

failure to yield is like the worst traffic ticket you can get. it's showing that when full responsibility is yours to watch out for yourself and other people you drive in a unsafe matter i don't think you'll lose your license but in some states it's a huge fine like up to $400 plus now your insurance is going to be higher. go to court.

I highly doubt you'll lose your license. You'll probably get a ticket and a slap on the hand;it was just an accident.

Hope you kept your bicycle. Really, should only be a fine and may affect insurance. Hopefully no one was injured and you can use this as a learning experience.

Totally your fault, but I highly doubt that you'll have to go to court for the traffic citation. Although, you may want to. A judge can offer you a reduced fine and traffic school. Completion of traffic school will prevent your accident from being placed on your driving record. If it is to be reported on your driving record, you can guarantee that your insurance rate will go up. Especially since you are young and have been driving for less than 3 yrs. Will you lose your license? No.
