I was performing/monitoring anesthesia on a patient and was standing with my left side directly next to the machine for over 2 hours. I went into the coil while it was scanning, to collect my vitals, and I felt a charge/pulse go through my head and "shake" or vibrate my brain. Instantaneously, I stood up, and the room was undulating. I had vestibular signs (staggering to the left, left sided head tilt, slurred speech, decreased reaction time), headache, severe lethargy and fatigue, almost to the point of becoming obtunded. I was admitted into the hospital for almost 3 days for severe bradycardia, hypotension, and headache. I was unable to work for months after the incident, due to severe exhaustion and headaches, as well as intermittent events of bradycardia and hypotension. My claim with workers compensation was recently denied, due to preexisting condition of neurocardiogenic syncopy, which I have not taken any medication for or had any symptoms of the condition in over over 10 years. Have you ever heard of anyone becoming this severely affected? Can you explain to me why this would happen? I am having difficulty with my case against the manufacturer, due to there being a lack of any documented case reports of this ever happening to anyone. Is there any way you can help me to understand what happened physiologically? In your expert opinion, can this happen to someone?
