A Question For My Canadian Friends, Or For Anyone Who Knows The Answer To Some Of This For That Issue...

If Canadian Bacon is what Americans get in touch with ham or at the quite least exceedingly near to what we call ham, what do Canadians contact what Americans call Bacon? Can there be any distinction among Canadian Bacon and ham? What do other nations make contact with pork and sausage? And do Canadians call pork "Canadian Bacon" or do they just get in touch with it " quot & Bacon. Wait, I feel I know the answer to that 1, I was in Europe about 17 years back and I bear in mind I bought bacon and eggs in a cafe and I got ham and eggs, or "Canadian Bacon" and eggs when there is a distinction...despite the fact that it appeared to me that it was practically ham, and it was told me that what I got was "Canadian Bacon" and they essentially named it "Bacon" as they were Canadians.

A Question For My Canadian Friends, Or For Anyone Who Knows The Answer To Any Of This For That Matter...

dalepetrie_is_gone mentioned: 1 smilepolite, regarding your answer "It is just bacon.":It was 1980 so it was 27 years ago, not 17 as I mistyped, my apologies about that, I was about 9 years old, it was just north of the Minnesota border in Manitoba, I forget the city, but it wasn't touristy. It was the morning following our first evening in the country. I just don't forget my parents introducing me to the concept of Canadian Bacon soon after I was confused as to why I got ham and eggs alternatively of the bacon and eggs I ordered. Maybe it was a error on their portion coupled with a misperception on their element. Maybe in particular components of Canada ham is ham and bacon is bacon and that's it and in other people there is a distinction like this. Possibly factors have changed a lot in the usage in practically 3 decades. I just know that it happened, so I've always assumed that Canadian Bacon was the Canadian term for ham, just like Kraft Dinner is their term for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Come to think of it, I've heard the term "back bacon" used by Canadians...how does that issue into it...what is that exactly? 79 months ago

A Question For My Canadian Friends, Or For Anyone Who Knows The Answer To Any Of This For That Matter...

In Canada, bacon is the same as what Americans get in touch with bacon. "Canadian Bacon," in Canada, is ham. I am a Canadian and my husband's family members is American, and I had a conversation about this with my father-in-law a couple of nights ago. I didn't even know what men and women were speaking about when they would say one thing about Canadian Bacon previously to that night. I consider that a lot of Canadians, when you ask them if they consume Canadian Bacon, will say yes since they believe that you are just talking about normal old bacon, but purchased in Canada or anything. I think that Canadian Bacon(by the appears of it) is some sort of tubed processed ham that has been reduce into circles maybe it was invented by a Canadian living in America, or possibly the guy's last name was "Canada." The possibilities are endless! Your story about ordering bacon in Canada and receiving ham blows my thoughts, as I have never in my life heard a Canadian refer to ham as bacon. Perhaps they made a mistake in taking the order, or maybe it was a tourist-y type spot that catered to Americans. I am genuinely curious what part of Canada you were in.

A Question For My Canadian Friends, Or For Anyone Who Knows The Answer To Any Of This For That Matter...

smilepolite said: 2 haha, that's crazy; I've never been to Manitoba. Maybe somebody from there will answer and tell us that the whole thing originated there.I think back bacon is just pork fat. I just asked my husband if he had a better idea(he's full of trivia); he's a Texan and he says that it's the same thing as "fat back." He says that it used to be a staple in the south amongst the lower classes of people, and that some of William Faulkner's stories talk about people going to the store and buying fat back, and reheating it again and again until it was all consumed. I have no idea if that is true either. We need some pork authorities in here. 79 months ago
