Am I aloud to film the police?

Postby lintun » Wed Apr 18, 2012 4:20 am

I skateboard in the summer and cops/security guards always tell me to leave when I am on private property which I understand. If they say please turn the camera off, can I deny the request? do I have the right to film whatever I please?

If you were aloud they would tell you to pipe down.

It depends on your county and state. In some cases this is actually illegal, but can be disputed in court. Most places however, you would be within your rights to record the Police. This is not an issue I would advice pressing on, unless you have access to good legal council and know the particular laws of your area. The link provided in the source section will provide you with great general information. But nothing is more powerful than you knowing your own state codes and being able to recite them calmly to the police.
