Anybody Have Any Experience With Pa Laws Concerning Aggressive Dogs?

Postby ainsley » Fri May 23, 2014 9:33 pm

My dog(on lead, being walked, and under control throughout) was attacked by a neighbor's dog yesterday. The dog broke out of their back yard and crossed a highway to get to our dog. This was the 3rd time we've had to call the cops because the dog has aggressively attacked ours. The cops say they can't do anything because no damage was done. I don't want to wait until damage is done. I want the owner to properly train the dog.Shooting the dog, shooting the owner are not an option. Unfortunately, as those options would both cause more trouble than they're worth.

Call Animal Control. If damage does get done, get compensation through their homeowner's insurance too. In Philadelphia(not sure where you are), you can call PACCA(animal control) and report the aggressive dog.  You should do it each time an incident occurs.  My co-worker used to have an aggressive dog and a few neighbors of hers filed complaints with PACCA and the SPCA.  Nothing quick was ever done with her, but they had a physical file on her.  I know they did investigate the complaints and she eventually gave up the dog.  In the future, if she tries to adopt another dog the red flags from complaints will pop up, increasing the chance she'll actually be denied the opportunity to adopt.    If an incident occurs and damage is done(god forbid), you can always sue the dog's owners and gain compensation through their homeowner's insurance.     Phicandy 75 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. Pa, like any other state has very specific laws concerning unleashed animals. Perhaps next time call animal control. I also live in PA and there is a possibility you can sue in small claims court for emotional damages. That would at least put the owner on notice that every time his dog gets out, it could cost him. If you take that course of action, get as many pictures as you can, it's good evidence. Good luck!

Anybody Have Any Experience With Pa Laws Concerning Aggressive Dogs?

I have had my three dogs, on leash and under control, attacked by off-leash dogs on a numer of occasions. I'm tired of it, and I'm not going to allow it any more. Recently, an off-leash pit bull charged at my dogs. I didn't wait to find out what he was going to do. I picked him up by the scruff of the neck and threw him back toward the owner. The owner was not pleased, and I had to call the police when he started threatening me. I'm not going to hold my dogs still while your off-leash dog attacks them.(The dog was not at all hurt when I picked him up and threw him. I know that the problem is the owner, not the dog.)
