I know of hundreds of them. I could tell you stories, actual cases, of people who died in surgery because a doc left tools/sponges inside of them. I could tell you stories of babies who died at the hands of OBs not following the standard of care, or not using the equipment properly, like a vacuum extractor. There's actually a horrific case out of Northern CA for Dr. X, who used the vacuum extractor improperly and killed two babies inside of 30 days. Of course, he didn't lose his job. He's still there waiting to deliver your child.
I could tell you dozens of stories of permanent brain damage caused to babies due to OBs' lack of following procedures, folks winding up paralyzed for use of a drug in surgery with that has a black box warning stating that it cannot be used in surgery -- because it can cause paralysis.
I could tell you stories of folks who received the wrong meds during surgery and died.
I could tell you the story of a guy whose doc removed his mask near the end of surgery, coughed, and caused a necrotizing staph infection that resulted in the man's leg being amputated above the knee.
I could tell you several stories where the patient was exhibiting signs of a stroke but the docs didn't recognize that and sent them home, where they later had massive strokes, or died.
I could tell the story of a woman who had an accident and the ER doc didn't recognize she was bleeding to death internally, nor did he ever do x-rays to find out that both her hips were broken. She actually had to call 911 to get her out of that hospital and be transferred to another hospital.
I could tell you the story of a young man who was left on a gurney for nine hours, covered with chemicals that resulted in multiple third-degree burns, and several skin grafting operations to repair the damage. That young man was released from hopt the next day, with an open gash in the back of his head that was never stitched up. Three days later an eye doctor put him on antibiotics for the infection in the wounds on his back.
I could tell you about the old lady who went in for eye surgery who was left permanently blinded by her doctor, who did the wrong procedure.
I could go on, and on, and on, and on.
Why do you want to know?
