Are their divisions of criminal law?

Postby gall » Thu Apr 07, 2011 6:23 am

I am interested in being a part of reforming the legal codes. For example, the kind of work im interested in might pertain to say banning cigarettes. That is not a concrete example and i have no opinion regarding that subject so dont spam this please :D That's the kind of reform im intered in, and i dont know don't division of law legal revision is under. I would guess criminal, but i think of working hands on with mindless criminal offenders inside of a jail when i think of generic criminal law, something im not very interested in. I suppose lawyers get to pick what cases they handle though, unless they work for a firm? Really im not sure, ive wanted to do corporate law for nearly 2 years now as i major in accounting, but ive been reading philosophy and lsat prep for a year or so now and my mind has turned to social reform while finances have become boring and shallow to me.
your assistance is appreciated

It may be that you might not want to become an attorney. Sometimes the law can be an instrument of social change. Roe v. Wade and Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka are two famous examples. Very few attorneys, however, are able to argue cases like these. Nevertheless, you might be able to get a job after law school working for an organization like the American Civil Liberties Union, Human Rights Watch, the Environmental Defense Fund, or any of a number of similar groups. Right now there are more attorneys than there are jobs for attorneys, so you may have trouble finding any job at all in the field.

Many law schools offer a specialty in public interest law. You might be interested in pursuing a career in that area.
