Are there areas in the UK where it's easier to to find long-term rental properties?

I am not in a position to buy and doubt I ever will be.
However, I do have a decent disposable income and can afford a £550 - £600 a month property but so far, I have only been able to find 6 month or one year contracts.
Just to have that little bit of security, I would love to find a 5 year contract or so. Are there areas of the uk where it is easier to find long term rental properties?

I would be happy to relocate too, as long as the area was right (and job prospects were good - I'm in the NHS and need to stay with them for pension considerations!)

It's not a matter of area it's a matter of landlord. Most landlords are initially cautious about new tenants and will only issue short agreements. This can benefit tenants too of course. Also, most landlords want to retain good tenants. So the chances are after a six month contract if both parties are content the tenancy will either be renewed or convert automatically into a rolling 'periodic' tenancy. So when you meet your prospective landlord ask what his plans are. Most will say six or twelve months but would like it to continue. From the landlords perspective it would be a huge risk to issue a five year contract to a tenant of unknown quality.
