Are you this type of parent that would do this?

Postby caffar » Thu May 31, 2012 2:18 am

When you catch or just know your son or daughter is having sex, are you the type of parent that would really....

Sit down with your son and talk it out, but yell at your daughter? Why are lots of parents this way?
Or would you let them have sex knowing that the patents of the other may not approve?

I'm not a parent. However, I wouldn't treat my daughter any different from my son. I would make sure they understand how important the decision to have sex is. They should know what can happen (STD's, pregnancy, Labels if others were to find out...you know kids can be cruel) as a result of having sex. I wouldn't be one of those pamphlet parents. I think that's a waste of time. The child should be sure this is what they want. More important, is the person worth it. Sex is WAAAAAYYYY more than physical. I believe they should know what they are getting themselves into.

I am not a parent...yet. But if I found out my child was having sex (regardless of their gender) I would sit down and talk with them. I'd make sure they know to use protection. I wouldn't get angry unless they were like 13 but if they're mature enough to handle something like sex, then it's their business. Sex is human nature. I'd just make sure they were safe and take them to the doctor to make sure everything was healthy

I have a son and a daughter. I think I would treat them both the same if I found out they were having sex. It's hard to know, though, because my son is 14 and my daughter is 19 months, so the disparity in age makes it difficult to tell what I'd do with my daughter in 13 or so years.

In the case of my son, he is well educated on sex and the possible repercussions. The fact that we had a child when he was 13 and he got to see all the difficulties of having a baby will probably be the primary thing that will keep him from having unprotected sex.

A parents doesn't "let" their child have sex. Nothing they can do or say will stop it.
I am the type of parent who, when informed by my daughter that she was having sex, will make a doctor's appointment for birth control. And pay for it. A son, pay for condoms, and make sure he doesn't trust a girlfriend to take her pills correctly. He doesn't need to be "trapped!"
It isn't for me to find out what the other parents approve or disapprove of.
