"assault rifles" are the most deadly guns, and yet the VT shooter killed 32 people with a handgun and low caps?

Postby jan46 » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:01 am

The Virginia Tech shooter killed 32 people with a handgun. He didn't use any high capacity magazines. That is 3x as many people as the Colorado shooter who had a shotgun, an AR-15 and a few handguns.... And yet semi auto rifles are the ones that need to be banned...

If "assault rifles" are banned, then 40 million people will become instant criminals, the real criminals will still get the guns, and people will still be able to do mass shootings with hand guns.. and assault rifles with high capacity magazines... (over 250 million of those)

So knowing that tighter gun policies won't work... (This is not Europe, we have 350 million guns in this country and billions in ammo, you can't just confiscate them... and even in Europe there are still mass shootings and gangs with guns..) ... why do so many people continue to advocate for policies that will not change anything.

Even with record amounts of guns being sold (16 million a year now http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/reports/050312-1998_2012_monthly_yearly_totals.pdf ) gun crimes are still going down about 9.5% each year http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2010/crime-in-the-u.s.-2010/tables/10shrtbl08.xls

Ammo sales are through the roof as well and most people buy their ammo online, or at a gun store in bulk to save costs... And yet gun crimes continue to go down.

Yes, I know. The media has conditioned you into thinking that semi automatic rifles are evil, and that if you own one you MUST be up to no good.. And that ordering ammo online indicates that you MUST be trying to start a mass shooting... (even though most gun owners buy ammo in bulk...)

But the fact is, Gun violence is down, and It will continue to go down even when more people are buying guns and getting concealed carry permits.. There will always be mass shootings, there will always be children who drown in pools, there will always be car wrecks... But the government can't make everything 100% safe.. If we were 100% safe we would be living in a police state, and that's assuming that the government is infallible and won't corrupt.. (they always do if they get to that point)

If you guys want to continue to waste time debating useless gun laws, by all means go ahead... But keep in mind that this debate was already settled in 1791, and the government can't Constitutionally do ANYTHING to change it without a Constitutional Amendment.

Doing something to make you feel like you accomplished something, will not accomplish anything.. In fact, it would possibly result in blow back.

There is already an "expose" calling single shot rifles assault rifles.

@ MTR 2.0

"The fact of the matter is that where guns are tightly control, there is a dramatic decrease in gun violence."-----------------Then explain why, as guns became more tightly controlled from 1968 to the mid 1980s' there was MORE gun violence.

Fewer guns means less gun violence.-------------Then explain why, from the mid 1980's to now, as more guns were put on the streets, concealled carry permits/licenses went from less than 40,000 to the current over 1,000,000, there is less gun violence.

Having a surplus means have more guns available, and better odds for misuse. ----------------Then why is misuse down as the 'surplus' goes up?

I think if you want to kill some one, you should have to get your hands dirty.--------------- And the 90 pound woman being attacked by a rapist should also get her hand dirty? The person defending themselves should have to engage directly? Andwhat about those who, even though they are willing to shoot, don't want to kill somebody? I have used a gun to stop attacks which, if I had to get my "hands dirty" probably would have wound up with the attacker dead instead of in jail.

Do you really want more bloodshed? That is what you are supporting, with your claims that more murder=less violence.

This is a wonderful post, and with your permission, I would like to forward it to our NBC station in Phoenix, channel 12. They are politically aligned with the Liberal faith, and they do relay opposition views...if founded in fact and/or make sense.....

First it's "assault rifles". Then it's "Sniper Rifles" (hunting guns) the "street sweepers' (shotguns) that gotta go.

semi/ autos make it easier for a unskilled person to kill more people is the point you are ignoring, also blow back is used incorrectly however I think it would be pretty hard to just make them illegal at this point.
