Avascualr Necrosis After Medial Meniscus Surgery

Postby Holden » Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:04 pm

I underwent a left knee medial meniscal repair and bakers cyst removal in July 2009. Pain did not get any better after surgery and I had an MRi in 9/2009 which showed 1 small and 1 medium to large areas of avascualr necrosis. Dr was stumped and was nto sure how to approach it having only ever dealt with in the hip. I moved care to a sports medicine Dr that i am friendly with and who was comfortable treating me. An MRI on 11/30 showed small area has 80% regenerated. Bigger area is showing no signs or regerneration. A prominent Seattle radiologist reviwed MRI's of pre and post surgery and determined that AVN was not present prior to  meniscal surgery. I am now into my 9th week of non weight bearing and looking at least 8 more . I am a mother of 3 kids who all are active in sports etc. My life has effectively been put on hold due to a probable mistake by the surgeon. DO you think that this is worth pursuing from a legal standpoint?

Yes, A lawyer wikll talk to the MRI reader and will no doubt ask him to be an expert at trial. If the MRI radiologist agrees, you will have  a case worth the lawyer's efforts. So, see a malpractice lawyer and talk to him. I think you have fair chance.
