Biology-Mitosis! Please help?

Postby ezri » Wed Feb 29, 2012 8:03 am

1) Brain and spinal cord injuries- infer to why even slight injuries to the brain and spinal cord can be serious and permanent. Why can't most of these cells repair themselves? What does this have to do with cell division?

2) How do cancer cells suddenly develop from normal cells? Name and explain 2 types of genes that control cell division? What does cancer have to do with cell division? What causes cancer to develop? What stage of cell division does cancer drugs affect? Why do some cancer patients lose their hair during treatment?

Thank you so much <3333

1. Brian cells are stuck in the G0 stage of development. They hardly ever divide, so if one gets killed or damaged, there's little chance it will be replaced.

2. Cancer cells are cells that don't respond to normal signals of when to divide and when not to divide. Not sure on the genes. Cancer patients loose their hair because chemo therapy kills other cells besides cancer cells.
