http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/the-imam-who-got-on-the-muslim-mccarthyists-1666126.htmlDr Hargey, a clean-shaven imam from Oxford who identifies herself as getting a "thorn in along side it of the Muslim structure", had only won a libel claim against a standard Muslim paper that stated he belonged to some sect which numerous in his religion believe is heretical. A South-African anti apartheid campaigner who has lived in Britain on and off for yesteryear three years, Dr Hargey has created a lot of enemies due to his liberal make of Islam which he preaches from the tiny construction hall.In contrast to most British imams who insist on segregation throughout Friday prayers, Dr Hargey enables guys and women to pray in precisely the same space. He thinks Muslims shouldn't feel essential to create beards or put on a veil and last December his mosque became the quite very first in Britain to permit a lady Islamic student to direct Friday prayers.

Uk Islam, Is It Trendy, Modern And Up-to-date? Is This Its Reformation? This Man Thinks So.

I never consider so. The UK?s diverse Muslim population situated in a Christian State will almost certainly not be at the vanguard of the Islamic Reformation. The increases in the Muslim population in the UK and elsewhere in Europe are not all "reformed" or secular denominations of Islam. Sheikh Abu Hamza, the former Imam of the Finsbury Park Mosque, is still quite fresh in a lot of minds. He and his followers are suspected of getting behind terror acts as nicely as the desecration of London synagogues. I believe he was found guilty back in 2006.   The US, which provides each freedom of religion and the separation of Church and State, will be the most most likely venue. And, I think that it will be South Asian--Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Indian--Muslims who will fuel the reformation in the US. This has already begun. I suspect in 100 years, one will uncover a well defined Reform movement in Islam in the States, not in contrast to what created inside Christianity and Judaism.   Nonetheless, I think that the US has competitors for this function. No, it won?t come from the UK or Europe or Indonesia. It will come from Turkey. There are moderate factions in Turkey already which are undertaking reform. I don?t speak just of accommodations to secular life in the "West" for comfort. I speak of reformation of some of Islam?s holiest texts--notably the Hadith. The revisions to this text are not universally recognized by any implies. But, the existence of this initiative from(pseudo) secular Turkey is remarkable. Till the present Islamist government, Turkey was most likely the most secular state in the world. I see a gradual shift back to Islam. But, this will not be an extremist Islam this will be a moderate kind of the religion.
