California unlawful deductions?

Postby anson34 » Thu Jul 19, 2012 9:46 am

Trying to find an answer for my fiance.. He was hired at a company who since te beginning wasnt able to pay him correctly.. They paid him 553$ for one week, then said they overpaid him accidently.. Then deducted it from his next weeks check.. But each check they said they accidently overpaid him and would ask for cash back from him.. He once gave them 340$ of what they said he was overpaid so he paid them in cash, only for ten to wait a week and say sorry weve already deducted it and gave it back? Then they laid him off.. On a thursday.. He turned his hours in on that following monday.. Went in for his final paycheck on friday, only to be told he owed the company money and wasnt getting a paycheck for his final work week and that he should now be square with the company???

This doesnt seem right to me. Is there anything we can do legally against them for their irresponsibilty as an employer? And who would i contact the labor board or am i better off consulting with a attorney about labor laws??

Are they being unproffesional or does this happen all the time???

Thank u for taking time to read this! Please help:(

First contact a lawyer so you will know the papers you will be needing. Surely he will also tell you to file a report at labor office.
