Can a criminal justice major become a paralegal?

I just got an amazing job working at a law firm. I will be a legal assistant doing just about everything since it is a three person office including the lawyer. This isn't my first time working as a legal assistant I was one for three years at another law firm before i got laid off. Anyway I am currently going to school for Early childhood education but my mother thinks that will have a better chance and be able to make more money if I become a paralegal. Unfortunately there are no paralegal programs near me, So i was wondering if I changed my major to criminal justice would I have a better chance to become a paralegal.
Advice please.
Btw I live in New Jersey.
